Abstract: | The perceived attributes of an innovation are the central determinants in adoption behavior. A number of relevant attributes identified in adoption theory has been arranged in a model which conceptually combines innovation attributes context variables, communication processes and responses in the adoption process. Additionally, the model distinguishes three types of attributes and postulates a hierarchy among them concerning their influence on each other. The proposed hierarchy model has been empirically applied to the adoption of personal computers in small production firms. The results show that during the adoption process a more technological view of an innovation changes into an economic investment decision. The less the decision situation can be structured, the more important are basis reflections about relative advantage and complexity. |
