Abstract:As the face of Chinese banking in Hong Kong, the Bank of China should do quite well in the territory when it comes to mainland rule. Some fear it will do a little too well, thanks to the guanxi (connections) that determine so much in Chinese commerce. Chen Yuan is aware of these concerns. That's why the deputy governor of the central bank is going out of his way to assert that the playing field in Hong Kong will remain level after the July 1 handover. The article is about how the Bank of China's moment arrives.
