Abstract:Hong Kong's stockmarket mania is enriching Chinese executives with lucrative stock options. But do these packages really reward performance? If to get rich is glorious, as China's late leader Deng Xiaoping famously said, then perhaps it is doubly magnificent to get rich quick. That's the calculation many of Hong Kong's red capitalists appear to be making. The colony's red-chip firms (mainland companies listed in Hong Kong) have heartily embraced the capitalist practice of offering lucrative stock options to their top brass.
