Abstract:Kenya is back on the International Monetary Fund assistance list with the approval of a $198m, three year loan. The breakthrough was announced by the IMF board in Washington July 27 after a three year lockout caused by the Kenya government's failure to act on high-level corruption and lack of key governance criteria. Heartily welcomed by President Moi and citizens alike, this lifting of the lockout comes at a most desperate time in Kenya's post- colonial history.
