Abstract:The paper describes the socially irresponsible dimension to corporate communication which was captured in two UK retailers, Largos and Littlewood, in conjunction with the toy firm Hasbro. In the situation confidential pricing information became culturally acceptable as it achieved the group goal of getting the 'win'. It distorted the competitive process and facilitated a reduced welfare position that contravened the public interest. The case raises the questions regarding the extent to which the regulatory role can legislate ethical conduct.
