Abstract:The relationship between academia and practice has long been an issue of much debate. This article presents a survey of advertising scholars' opinions about and perceptions of various aspects of the academia-industry relationship. These aspects are such as research collaboration, research orientation and dissemination of knowledge. Overall, respondents were in favour of building closer ties with the industry to produce better research and strenghten the academy. Major conceptual dimensions in the academia-industry interface were also identified. This article provides 11 suggestions regarding how the relationship between industry and the academy can be strengthened.
