Abstract:Immoral, amoral and moral management in action is discussed. Approaches to management ethics according to organizational characteristics are presented. A normal distribution of moral, immoral and amoral managers is hypothesized. It is set forth that the average manager is amoral most of the time but slips into a moral or immoral style on occasion. These managers are driven primarily by the profitability ethos that makes economic success the sole barometer of organizational and personal achievement. Developing moral imagination is interpreted as becoming sensitive to ethical issues in business decision making and searching out places where people are hurt by decisions or behaviors of managers.
