| Abstract: | The archetype of European novel of the epoch can be traced back to fairy tales whereas the plots of Russian novels from Gogol onwards can be referred to myths where the hero sets out to transform himself or the world. Despite the relatively limited number of mythical plot archetypes they are subjected to inventive transformations and result in an enormous amount of text variations. This implies that the plots of would-be novels are practically unpredictable. |
