Abstract:The article examines Hofstede’s model, which has been widely applied in international management. The author begins with criticism of Hofstede’s thesis and then considers the aptitude of his framework using a cross-cultural comparison of rewards preferences in four different countries. The results indicate that Hofstede’s proposition that human values are determined only by national culture ignores the fact that also a variety of other contextual factors can affect these values. Granted, that Hofstede’s model offers many theoretical as well as practical contributions.
