Abstract:Since Donald T. Campbell's (1965) pioneering paper 'Variation and Selective Retention in Sociocultural Systems', the sociocultural evolutionary models' thesis has been that culture is information transmitted from person to person via teaching and imitation. In this view, culture encompasses the knowledge or beliefs learnt from each other rather than learnt for ourselves or inherited genetically, incl. the technical knowledge, language, traditions, habits etc.
