Abstract: | Teamworking may not be the organizational panacea that many people imagine, according to a study for the IPD into lean organizations. Introducing teams can produce benefits, but there is also the danger of creating poor performance and low morale due to repetitive and closely monitored work. The most successful organizations made changes in only one department, which were then rolled out. The pilot groups experienced excitement, enthusiasm, and feelings of collective support. This helped to drive change through and overcome resistance. The more successful companies paid close attention to recruitment, selection, training, and rewards. |
