Abstract:The Australian accounting professional organizations created the present educational policies prior to the early 1960s when two reports were made public. The paper follows the development of these educational efforts, in particular the decision by the Australian Society of Accountants to adopt degree - level entry into the profession in mid - Sixties. The Institute of Chartered Accountants followed in a few years. This established full degree - level education as a requirement for professional accountants.
