Abstract:The subjects of the paper are the following topics: corporations and bank loans in Europe. The author of the paper focuses on how corporations can arrange new loans. The article considers the decline in the number of loans arranged in Western Europe in the third quarter of 2001 and pays an attention to the impact of the United States commercial paper (CP) market on companies' abilities to fund for the short term. The author also provides some views on the CP market. He states that in this period of shock ratings downgrades, weaker company balance sheets, increasing discrimination among credit investors and caution from lending banks, corporates are facing a liquidity crunch.
