| Abstract: | Despite the many reported advantages of computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) technologies, the high fixed costs of CIM make this strategy an impossible dream for many ongoing manufacturing plants. This article offers a low cost alternative strategy for revitalizing older plants. These low cost measures have proven themselves capable of turning money losing 'rust belt' facilities slated for shutdown into stable, competitive, and profitable assets for the firm. |
