| Abstract: | Equipment uptime is fundamental to manufacturing performance and business performance would be improved if uptime could be tied to and managed for competitiveness. So, why are maintenance and reliability typically on the outside looking in on the manufacturing enterprise? Why are they considered a service, not a player, a necessary evil, not a blessing? This article introduces the missing field that reverses this history. The view is that the manufacturer's potential in these areas is limited if maintenance and reliability is omitted from the manufacturing enterprise. |
