Abstract:This article examines an endogenous policy response to deteriorating labour market conditions for older workers in certain regions and sectors in Austria. More specifically, this policy change prolonged entitlement to regular unemployment benefits from 30 weeks to a maximum of 209 weeks for elderly individuals in certain regions of Austria. The results of this evaluation showed that it reduced the transition rate to jobs by 17%.
