Abstract:This article examines the factors stimulating entrepreneurship. Since the early 1990s, the US government has implemented new public policies in order to facilitate entrepreneurship and innovation. Those policies include tax reforms, commercialization of university research, allowing pension funds to finance new firms, and benefit-cost analysis before creating new regulation. The risk of bankruptcy, health insurance, non-compete clauses, finance, and intellectual property are described as necessary factors affecting the entrepreneurial decision. In the future, policy makers must take entrepreneurs into account in more broad policy considerations in order to sustain the entrepreneurial economy.
