| Abstract: | A study is described which was undertaken to determine whether a state's needs justified the large amount of state revenues per capita it was spending on medical education system and to identify available policy options. The intent is to present a planning methodology developed and used to help decision-makers to understand the impact of potential changes in medical school policies on both the state costs of medical education and on physician manpower supply. This objective is pursued through a detailed analysis of one statewide system of medical education. The major data collection and analysis efforts are described. The application of the process is discussed. |
