Abstract:In order to explore the connection btw. pressures for improved practices and the management (hereafter as: mgmt.) actions taken, this article explores how various stakeholders' influence is related to awareness (here as: awnss.) of environmental (as: env-al.) issues, and how this awnss. relates to actions taken within the businesses to reduce their operations' env-al. impact. It is indicated that legislation results in general env-al. awnss., and that organizations are then willing to change their business processes and env-al. strategies. Yet, despite their actions they have little awnss. of the possible benefits arising from cost reductions from their env-al.-friendly practices. Those influenced by their suppliers act to reduce waste, but do not put into place formal env-al. mgmt. systems, or use env-al. messages for marketing their goods or services. However, they can be argued having a real commitment to env-al. issues, as shown by a willingness to voluntarily contribute to env-al. organizations.
