Abstract:Narrative has increased its importance as a tool for understanding organizations, and it has a significant impact on the perception of environmental issues in business. The purpose of this article is to develop a framework for the evaluation of narratives. The model works in two stages: horizontal reading examines the surface, textual features, instrumental devices and the narrative's integrity as a text, whereas vertical reading examines the value assumptions that the authors and readers bring to the text. The framework is then applied in practice, testing it on a narrative about the relationship between business and environment, by a supply chain manager of a British manufacturing firm.
