Abstract:Relevant management paradigms such as Total Quality Management (TQM) and Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) are brought up in this editorial article. Our deteriorated society and organizations are in need of healing. Organizations and leaders must learn to face up the reality. To think beyond TQM and BPR is to ponder over the issue of change and control, and the balance between control and civility. When thinking about project-oriented organizations one must be aware of the transformational nature of organizations. Project management was built on systems engineering which is control-oriented. When change is too rapid and control too excessive they may cause pain.
