Abstract:After a look-back on the postwar strife for quality products in the Japanese motor industry,the methods of upgrading quality are surveyed,including organizational changes,corporate strategies,managerial behavior and involvement of shop floor employees in quality improvement. When the learning process is drawn up,the present standings of quality control in Japan is discussed with stress on personnel. The conclusions with implications for western companies are listed.
