Abstract:With the Scotch whisky industry dominated by huge multinationals, smaller distillers are facing problems of their own. The spirit of Scotland, a country of less than 5m people, has become the major drink in the world. Every second, 30 bottles of Scotch whisky are sold somewhere in the world. More Scotch is sold in France in a month than Cognac in a year. Whisky cannot be called Scotch unless it has been distilled in Scotland and matured there for three years.
