Abstract:The retail wine sector exhibited a high growth rate of 54,5% in volume terms between 1994-1998. Spirits suffered from the developments in the wine sector but remained the biggest in terms of value. The consumption of foreign spirits grew fast, with vodka being most popular. Beer remained the most popular drink among consumers. Technological developments positively affected the demand for canned beer and resulted a substantial increase in retail sales.
