Abstract:The recent trend of private-sector involvement in water servicing has potentially great implications for sustainability. The experiences of the city of Aguascalientes are analysed to demonstrate how changes in water pricing and allocation policy affect specific principles of sustainability. Particularly two key themes that commonly appear in sustainable development frameworks are analysed: 1) lessening poverty and 2) safequarding resources for future generations. The analysis takes place in the context of the rising threat of water scarcity in the region.
