Abstract:Guinness had brands, full of tradition, but in need of a classier image. Tennant, A., its chief executive undertook a strategic review of the whole company. The key decision was to focus on drinks, abandoning all of the peripheral activities. The only non-core business that still remains is Guinness Enterprises, a subsidiary, comprising the Guinness Book of Records. LMVH is the biggest Guinness joint venture, with 25 p.c. of profits tied up in products that are jointly distributed. Company profits are not affected by the overall drop in volume of beer and spirits consumed. Many people are drinking less but better beverages. On the beer side there have been some innovations.
