Abstract:Fighting computer viruses is a full-time job for many people - and so, apparently , is creating new viruses for others. How can you avoid an epidemic? Today's viruses are often so furtive that they can be around for weeks or months before they are discovered. There's one thing more embarrassing than having your computer infested by a virus, and that's infecting your clients' computers with it. Yet not all accountants are as scrupulous as they might be about virus protection. One firm that sells anti-virus software says: "We use one of the top four firms of accountants, and when they came to do an audit I was horrified to discover that their virus protection was 18 months old." With new viruses appearing all the time, those auditors ran the double risk of losing their own work to a virus caught at one client's and cross-contaminating other clients through the disks.
