Abstract: | This article presents a method for assessing the environmental (hereafter as: env.) impacts of private consumption. First, seven consumption domains (clothing, food, housing, furnishings, leisure, personal care, and labor) were examined using 360 expenditure categories from the expenditure survey of Statistics Netherlands. Second, the indirect and direct env. loads were evaluated. The results show that e.g. a large proportion of the env. load of Dutch private consumption takes place abroad and the consumption domain of food has high env. loads. |
