Abstract:A trend has been developing for some time: according to research by surveyors Jones Lang Wootton, for four of the eight big companies moving out of London in 1993 that it talked to, operational and organizational issues underpinned their decision to move. Rather than replacing the staff shed during the recession to cope with resurgences in demand, organizations continue to rationalise and restructure. Large corporate reorganizations often prompt relocation. As well as reducing staff numbers, changes in working practices and new technology can be implemented more easily at new premises.
