Abstract:Information technology often promises that it will serve as a catalyst for change. But, this promise usually goes unfulfilled. To achieve its promise information technology needs to take a human centered approach. It means building flexibility and disorder into information systems, accepting that departments will not come up with a shared definition, and it means changing corporate behavior that discourage information sharing. Looking at companies that have successfully addressed this problem, the author shows how to rebuild an organization's information culture.
