Abstract: | In many industries ease of entry, facilitated by technological changes, deregulation and freeing of international trade barriers, has intensified competition. The old dividing line between competitors and collaborators has blurred: companies are often both. The environment is not just uncertain, it is becoming ambiguous as well, not unpredictable but often unknowable. To achieve competitive success today, commitment to a desired future must be tempered with a healthy dose of flexibility. How can a firm's strategy be designed to manage the dilemma created by these seemingly opposing requirements? |
