Abstract:Environmental concerns have stalled many public works. But Asia is finding ways to make projects more friendly. The Tsing-Ma bridge linking Hong Kong's new airport to the city is one impressive sight among many in the $20-billion project. Visitors flying in after April 1998 will marvel anew at man's audacity: a 300-hectare island replaced by an airport four times the size. Zipping to town on high-speed trains, tourists will gawk at the concrete and steel monuments to Hong Kong's economic prowess.
