| Abstract: | Mercosur countries expect closer institutional ties with the EU to help penetrating markets of the EU and attracting foreign direct investment from investors in the EU. However, the effectiveness of inter-regional cooperation agreements in promoting bilateral trade and investment relations is open to question. Future trade and investment relations with the EU depend primarily on Mercosur's own economic policies, especially on openness towards international capital markets and goods. |
