Abstract: | New information and communication technologies enable many reforms in the financial services sector. A case example of this kind of development is Mondex and its project to implement a smart card alternative to cash. The main subject of this study is the performance of virtuality in social organizations which is analyzed on the basis of two-year ethnographic investigation of a range of financial services. The analysis considers virtuality as mimesis, as disposal and as electronic mediation. Despite the significant resources and the sophistication of the technology the new revolutionary ideas sometimes fail to achieve noticeable success. |
