Abstract:An explanatory study of marketing management in the People's Republic of China was conducted on a small convenient sample of 13 firms in Tianjin in 1986. The fieldwork was performed by two research assistants who were MBA students at Nankai University, and a senior author from Laval University /Quebec, Canada/. Interviews were conducted on the basis of a small unstructured questionnaire with questions mainly related to the classical marketing factors, that is product, price, place and promotion. Even if broad generalizations are uncalled for, some tentative conclusions which synthesize what was learned during the empirical study are suggested with a world on the problems of international trade.
