Abstract:Under the new Belgian media laws each region is allowed a private channel. The first commercial channel for Flemish speakers, VTM is to start on February 1. 1989. VTM will transmit 7 hours a day for a 20-25% share of the audience. The station has no terrestrial frequencies, but has a high cable penetration. Apart from two daily newscasts VTM will buy its programming from independents.
