| Abstract: | This paper reviews the historical cost patterns of the impact of maintenance on production costs in the chemical processing industry. It then discusses the variables in maintenance cost that affect production, including opportunity cost, incremental maintenance cost, intermediate storage requirements, idle production employees, parts inventory, preventive maintenance, maintenance cost versus capacity utilization, quality of maintenance personnel, and increased maintenance staff levels. |
