Abstract:Before the West imposes the capitalist framework on the newly emerging East European economies, it may be useful to evaluate just how transferable Western economic and enterprise management is. A well-functioning infrastructure and culture demands a skilled management infrastructure which allows these economies to internationalize and rationalize even in the face of unemployment and economic uncertainty. These are not pure "free market" economies but involve varying degrees of government intervention, however, they differ from centrally planned economies. Although there are many similarities in East and West in business behavior, the differences are crucial; they are discussed in detail.
