Abstract:The author consider life and work of Harry G. Johnson. Memories of Harry on the Chicago Faculty, Simpson on How Harry Worked, Corden on Harry's View of the Scientific Enterprise. The author states that a limitation of Harry's analysis was that it explicitly ignored the implications of financial capital flows, and as a consequence, the full power of his careful distinction between portfolio adjustments and long run flow adjustments was not immediately apparent. The paper provides a great number of references on this subject.
