Abstract:This special report focuses on the slow economic movement in Nigeria. The paper considers the following subjects: 1) failure of economic policy makers to examine basic points in awarding massive contracts; 2) factors contributing to the distortions in the economy; 3) assessment on the economic performance of the country by Central Bank governor Joseph Sanusi. The next part of the article reports on the economic survival strategies of banks in Nigeria. It covers following: 1) transformation of banking culture; 2) adherence to a series of tough regulations for banks by the Central Bank and the Deposit Insurance Corporation. The two last sections report on the low capacity of manufacturing industry and on the personal life insurance policies of insurance industry in Nigeria.
