Abstract:People, companies, and nations are joining forces to pursue global goals. The terrorist attacks of Sept. 11 created a fissure in American life. A number of estimates have been offered for the economic impact of the attacks. Directly or indirectly, virtually all economic activities have been affected. Consumer demand was in shock worldwide and has declined precipitously in some industries, in particular for luxury goods. Marginal customers who had gradually become more important for many industries dropped out in droves as they hunkered down to observe everyone else's reactions. Airlines, airports, concession stands, hotels, and travel agents experienced massive dislocations.
