Abstract:Divorces usually have dramatic gender-specific economic consequences. But what are the consequences when dissolving a consensual union. This study verifies results of other studies that divorced women are economically more disadvantaged than men. And it also reveals that ex-cohabiting women experience a smaller decline in their economic situation than divorced women shortly after the dissolution of the union. This article shows the differences in economical conditions between men and women after divorce or consensual dissolved union.
