| Abstract: | R and D in the East bloc represents new and profitable opportunities for Western firms interested in technology licensing and patent acquisition. With high-level scientists performing basic research, the East block needs Western partners who have the skills to develop and commercialize the untapped technology base. Some American firms have developed real experience in facilitating complex East-West business transactions and excellent contacts to gain access to East bloc technology. The six vital facts that make the East block an attractive region for tapping technology are described. It is stated that Western firms can acquire East bloc technology through licensing, direct purchase, joint ventures, and other means. |
