Abstract: | A growing number of Central European firms are taking a hard look at the costs and benefits of ceding control to a foreign partner. The benefits of foreign investment used to be taken for granted in the corporate boardrooms of Central Europe. For good reason. A multinational offered a range of goodies for ailing local firms: infusions of capital, technology and management skills, access to global distribution channels and new markets, Western-style marketing and packaging. Often, when a suitor came calling, a shot-gun marriage was hastily arranged and the deal done with little thought for the future. |
