Abstract:Central Europe's fragmented retail market will consolidate rapidly as international chains expand. Companies need to establish relationships with tomorrow's retail giants now while they still have the power to negotiate terms. International retail chains are pouring into Central Europe. Just in the past two months, Penny market, a subsidiary of Germany's Rewe (Europe's second biggest retailer), announced plans to open up to 300 discount food stores in Hungary. The region's fragmented retail market is starting to consolidate.
