Abstract: | It requires more than just determined management to sort out Russia's corporate mammoths. The authors look at three attempts. First, how can you turn around a company supporting 500,000 people? Strike threats are common at Norilsk Nickel, one of the world's largest metal producers. Not unreasonably, as workers are owed hefty amounts of money by the cash-trapped giant. It sounds only too typical of Russia, but there's one important difference: the owner is private and keen to increase the value of its stake. A pity that it has a get-out clause. |
