Abstract:BCE asked readers to select the best companies in their countries -- and found that effective restructuring and and successful share issues were what caught their attention. But compare their choices to the list of the region's largest 100 companies, and it is clear that size still matters. It's a distorted perspective on Central European business. Just 52 companies are in private hands and 36 are shrinking in size. While only nine companies report losses, their average profitability is abysmal.
