Abstract:Central Europe's farmers are losing out to their EU rivals. That will never change, unless Central Europeans learn how to produce better food, using fewer people. The EU doesn't know what to think about Central European farms. Some members worry about millions of inefficient farms requiring massive aid. Others are scared stiff that a flood of cheap agro0food imports will send their own protected frame into bankruptcy. That explains why EU's stance on extending its common agricultural policy eastwards is so ambiguous.
