Abstract:The Czech Social Democrats under Milos Zeman took power for the first time since the revolution in June 1998 elections. But they do not hold a parliamentary majority. That makes the Czech Republic's future as uncertain at the end of 1998 as at the beginning. Until June, the country was governed by an interim administration led by central bank governor Josef Tosovsky. He made a start on long-overdue finanical reform, essential if industry is to become competitive.
