Abstract:The European Union (EU) has shown that liberalising energy markets, e.g. electricity markets works. Future plans include gas markets. Now Central Europe is scurrying to catch up to benefit, too. There is global information in brief on 'Reform scores by region' (1998), 'Electricity prices per kWh' (1999 4th Q. in US cents) in Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic and as a comparison in the U.K. There is also information in brief on 'Coal production' (1998) in thousand short tons, 'Oil exports outside the CIS by route' (1998, 1999) in barrels per day, in 1000s, and 'Reserves of fossil fuels' (1999 estimates) of Central Europe by countries.
